Maximising the value of your client database

Maximising the value of your client database

Take away you client bank, what would your business be worth? Not much right? Therefore, you should be doing everything in your power to take control of your client data, guard it and unlock its potential.

So how do you do this? Here’s 4 ways to keep your client data in tip top shape to maximise its value…

  1. Limit access - Are you familiar with the saying “too many cooks spoil the broth”? Turns out this doesn’t just apply to cooking but to data security as well. As a matter of fact, the more people that have access to client data, the more it’s at risk! If a member of the team has no need to access something, don’t authorise them - it’s as simple as that.
  2. Keep your data up to date – Your data won’t be very useful if it’s not accurate. We encourage you on a regular basis to audit your data just in case you’ve had a busy day and forgotten to update a client file. This means when it comes to generating a report, for example the no. of mortgage applications you’ve submitted in a given month, you can be sure the findings are correct. Just as important, you should keep your data up to date to ensure a professional client experience. Wouldn’t it be embarrassing if a client told you something, you forgot to log it in your notes and you had to ask again?
  3. Keep your data organised – Similar to our point above, your data won’t be very useful if it’s not organised. In a face-paced environment you need to be able to access information quickly and easily. Make it a habit to store things in the right place to maintain efficiency in your business.
  4. Using data for marketing - Your clients’ data is a powerful way to grow your business. Firstly, with permission, you can use contact information for email marketing: keep reminding those prospects who have enquired and gone quiet that you’re still here (put yourself at the top of their call list) and communicate other ways you can help clients to maintain your relationship (do you have any products you can cross-sell?). Secondly, using other client data you might be able to spot trends and use this information to market cleverly. Are you getting a lot of young people enquiring about obtaining a mortgage or self-employed workers…you might want to tailor content in your email marketing or social media to these audiences groups.

The bottom line is, the way you look after your client data has a huge impact on how successful your business is. If the system you’re currently using isn’t letting you unlock the true potential of your client data, you might want to think about exploring other ways you can.
